Beach & cliffs
Schönhagen is a small, charming Baltic seaside resort on the Schwansen peninsula — with around 1,000 metres of fine sandy Baltic beach that merges into impressive cliffs to the south. The Baltic resort of Olpenitz and the Schlei town of Kappeln are just a few minutes away by car; bakery, restaurant and playground are within walking distance — and the Schlei fjord, the cliffs and the town of Kappeln make for wonderful day trips.

What there is to discover
The cliffs
South of the beach the sand gives way to impressive cliffs — the walk along the water beneath them is one of the finest on the Schwansen peninsula.
Kappeln on the Schlei
The town on the Schlei is about five kilometres away: harbour restaurants, the bascule bridge, the historic herring weir — and excursion boats for exploring the fjord from the water.
Arnis
Germany's smallest town sits on a peninsula in the Schlei, less than 15 minutes by car. Just under 300 inhabitants, a long street lined with pollarded limes and the sailors' church of 1673. You can walk around the whole place in about an hour.
By bike
The landscape between the Baltic and the Schlei is flat and easy to read — perfect for day rides. A popular loop runs along the Schlei shore via Lindaunis, Arnis and Kappeln.
Tolk-Schau
The family theme park between Schleswig and Kappeln is a good half hour away by car: 30 hectares with a summer toboggan run, a park railway and the Valley of the Dinosaurs. Built for children up to about twelve.
Arche Warder
The wildlife park for rare farm animal breeds near Rendsburg is about an hour's drive away — a good plan for a rainy day that turns out long.
How to reach us
Schönhagen lies on the Schwansen peninsula between the Bay of Eckernförde and the Schlei — close enough for a long weekend, far enough from everyday life.
By car
About an hour and a half from Hamburg via the A7. Two free parking spaces belong to the house, one of them with a charging point for electric cars.
By train and bus
There is a good rail connection to Eckernförde, and a bus runs from there to Schönhagen. Arrive without a car and you can still walk to the beach, the bakery, the restaurant and the playground.
On the doorstep
Restaurant 50 metres, shop and playground 100 metres, beach 20 metres. For everything else, Kappeln is a few minutes away.
